The Walk

Nancy Knight |

January 19, 2026

I wonder what He was thinking as He walked down the street
Carrying our Salvation
Tired, weary, and bruised, He trudged along
Saving us with each step.

Saying to His Father, “my task is almost done”
Up the hill he struggled, the battle nearly won.

The crowd was yelling, “crucify”, some were shedding tears.
How could this happen to their Lord?
The nails were driven in his hands and feet,
A crown of thorns on His head.

Saying to His Father, “my task is almost done”
Up went the cross, the battle nearly won.

The clouds took over the sky, as our Lord suffered on the cross
Succumbing to His death
His head dropped slowly, so lifeless was He
Uttering His last words.

Saying to His Father, “my task is now done”
Up lifted his head, “Father forgive them, everyone..

After His death they took Him away, burying Him in a tomb
The stone closed Him in, there He lay.
But three days later, when the women went to see
The stone had been rolled away, the body gone.

Saying to the women, “your task has just begun”
Up lifted their spirits, and to the twelve they did run.

The disbelief, the happiness, the disciples were filled with awe
How could this be, our Lord has returned?
Is it not what I said, Jesus spoke?
Now go and spread my word.

Saying to the disciples, “your task has just begun”
Up He ascended to Heaven, Our Lord, God’s Son.
